Movement

Students learn to express themselves through movement. In eurythmy classes students learn how to bring music and poetry into physical expression, thereby gaining a better understanding of these arts.

Eurythmy-9th Grade

The ninth-grade year is based upon modern history. The students work with geometrical forms. These forms strengthen their individuality, which, in ninth-grade, is under great development through the struggles of adolescence. Geometrical movements help them to align themselves with the world. They also support the students' social relationships and give them security in their actions. Classical music, through its lawfulness, also stabilizes the growing adolescent and helps him/her to find a secure path in life.

Eurythmy-10th Grade

In the tenth-grade year, students move from the geometrical forms to symmetrical forms. These forms represent liberation from the strict laws of geometrical forms presented in the ninth-grade year; through symmetry students are able to develop a new dimension in their movements. The elements and moods of Ancient history are used to further the students' knowledge of the sound gestures and temperaments. Classical music pieces are studied and interwoven with poetry, enabling students to work on flexibility in their movement, their thinking, and their feeling.

Eurythmy-11th Grade

The mood of the planets, including the sun and the moon, are the medium through which the students enter the eleventh-grade. Eleventh-grade eurythmy works in accordance with their medieval history studies and then leads them into the search for their own individuality. At this point the students are able to enter the realm of modern classical music and to free themselves of the given forms in order to explore their own ways and to find their own interpretations.

Eurythmy-12th Grade

The senior learns to understand the relationship between the world and himself, the individual versus the society at large. In eurythmy, this is done through the study of the zodiac and its historical and poetical relationship to the human being. In the twelfth grade, the students are encouraged to do solo work and to explore their artistic talents and capacities through independent projects. They are encouraged to create their own forms and to work on them independently.

Physical Education

Athletics form one of the most vital and popular facets of our school. In weekly physical education classes, students develop fitness through rigorous exercise and refine their athletic skills through intramural games. The goal of the physical education program is to encourage each student in activities that promote the ideals of healthy living. A variety of individual and team activities are offered. Included in the curriculum are cooperative games, recreational activities, and cultural sports. Evaluation is based on skill components as well as on attitude, participation, effort, uniform and attendance.
