Grades 9-12 Application Process

Overview

The High School seeks to admit students that will be able to thrive in the environment of the school. Consideration is given to a student’s ability to handle the rigors of a college preparatory program. Prospective students must also be enthusiastic about immersing themselves in the artistic requirements of the High School curriculum. Further consideration is given to the social makeup of the class and how a particular candidate would integrate into the social fabric of the group. Finally, the admissions team considers what the role of the prospective family would be; ideally searching for those that would be supportive and active participants in the school community.

The High School believes that the school community should reflect the larger world. It seeks to admit students that bring ethnic, racial, geographic, socio-economic, religious, and artistic diversity. It is felt that by doing so it is creating a richer environment that will contribute significantly to the learning that goes on both in and outside of the classroom.

Application Procedures

Applications for admission are accepted after Labor Day for the following academic year. Prospective students must:

  • Complete the Upper School Application

Once all of these materials are assembled, an interview is scheduled. The interview is conducted by the Director of Admissions for the Upper School. Whenever possible the advisor for a grade of the prospective student and the Chair of the Upper School is present. Interviews typically last 30 minutes and may involve a separate conference for parents and student.

All transcripts, recommendations and standardized test scores are reviewed by the Admissions Committee, and this team makes a decision. If a student’s candidacy is in some way ambiguous or unusual, he/she is brought to the high school faculty for a review and further discussion.
