College Planning Guide
The Internet
Technology has had a major impact on the college admission process. Some no-cost web-sites, such as the one found at www.collegeboard.com, enable a student to select parameters such as size, location, selectivity, and course of study in order to have the program suggest colleges that match the student's interests. Colleges are spending enormous amounts of time and money to produce web-site that attract prospective students. We urge you not to rely solely upon the information seen on a computer screen. It is still imperative to visit campuses and research the college outside of its home page on the Internet, but the school web-site is a great place to begin researching a particular school.
One way in which the internet has streamlined the college search process is by making it easier for students to request materials from admissions offices and to contact college coaches. Most colleges also offer on-line tours, chat sessions with current students/professors, and of course, on-line applications. We encourage participation in all of these events.
Some other web sites that the College Guidance office recommends:
- The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC)’s “Parent and Student” site: www.nacac.com/p&s.html
- www.ncaa.org – all seniors who intend to play NCAA Division I or Division II intercollegiate athletics must complete the Clearinghouse Forms on this site
Of course, we hope that your #1 destination for college information will be
