he Community Association (CA) belongs to the parents, teachers and staff of the Rudolf Steiner community. It serves as a vital link between all the various adult constituencies within the School. All parents, teachers and staff are automatically members of the Community Association which is led by the Co-Presidents of the Parent Council, elected by the CA.
Parent Council
The Parent Council, an elected group of at least seven parents (including two Co-presidents) and a designated representative from the College of Teachers, serves as a liaison among the parents, the College of Teachers, the Administration and the Board of Trustees. Our mission is to promote a strong, integrated, diverse community of parents, faculty, staff and students to serve our School and to benefit the education of our children and the larger community. One of the council’s main tasks is to facilitate communication on and discussion of issues relevant to the day-to-day life of the community, including the education and social life of our children within the School community. The group encourages awareness and involvement on the part of every member of the community in the mission and workings of the School. The Co-Presidents serve on the RSS Steering Committee and Board of Trustees where they share one vote.
The Parent Council has several subcommittees that encourage the involvement of the community in a number of activities. These committees include but are not limited to: Community Education (this includes study groups, lectures and workshops), Dad ’s Committee, Festivals Committee, Book Fair/Library Committee and Events Committee (welcome back party, spring picnic, school photos, Advent spiral dinner and more). The roles of these subcommittees reflect the Council’s role as informational resource, support system and unifier. The entire school community is invited to participate in these committees and other activities sponsored by the Parent Council. Please contact the Co-Presidents Melinda Hung or Lynn Parkerson at (pc@steiner.edu) with any questions.

Class Representatives
Each class has at least two parent representatives who are active members of the Community Association. Class Representatives work closely with the Parent Council, meeting with them throughout the year. The class teacher, in consultation with the former representatives, chooses new Class Representatives as necessary. Representatives usually serve for two years.
The role of the Class Representative includes welcoming new parents to the School and acting as another communication link among the School, the teachers, and the parents. The Class Representatives share with the rest of the parents what is new, what is happening, and what is needed to support their teacher and students, as well as the school at large. More specifically, they organize volunteers for classroom events and, in pre-school through grade six, they oversee the one-month-per-year beautification of the Lower School building and hospitality for evening events.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION COMMITTEE (formerly Parent Education) CALENDAR OF EVENTS
The Community Education Committee consists of both parent and faculty volunteers who come together several times a year to organize lectures, workshops and other events for the parent body. The committee is always seeking ideas for new topics and speakers and would appreciate any input from interested parents and faculty.
